Learn in the sun
Combine learning French with an exotic holiday in the Caribbean at Media Langues Guadeloupe where the latest technology is combined with small group teaching and total immersion in the culture if you stay with local hosts and take part in the Creole cooking classes as well.
Proving your skills
The European Language Portfolio is a way of collecting together the evidence of what you have learned. There is a junior version with teacher's guide and an adult version. (All these are pdf files.)
Improving your skills offline
Avoid online charges by buying language software on CD or DVD. You can browse through many different possibilities at the following:
Champs-Elysées, the monthly audiomagazine on CD and cassette for intermediate to advanced speakers of French. Filled with cultural features, news and interviews. Read a fuller review here.
Fluent French Audio Listen to real French as it is spoken. Every two months you receive a CD containing several interviews with ordinary people about everyday topics. Hear for example about the family who set off for their holiday only to find that the father had mis-read the dates on the ticket and the plane had taken off the previous day and imagine the atmosphere in the car as they drove home. You also get two booklets, one with a transcript and one with a translation of the transcript into English. There is even the option to download a slo-o-o-w version of the interviews.
For younger learners
A fun way to learn and practice French is to join a club such as Le Club Français where children learn through music and games. Le Club Français has branches all over the UK.
